The Crash II: Aftermath of Doing the Right Thing
Monday, July 23rd, 2007A while back I wrote a post entitle “The Crash” Describing in detail an incident that I witness involving an old woman turning left while not seeing a young man going straight. By the title I think you can understand what happened. Being conflicted with this moral center or hero’s complex that I have, I had to stop and help and was first to the scene and saw everything that happened. I still remember the woman’s first words she spoke to me, “What happened?” That pretty much says it all in my mind.
This was all fine and dandy because no one was hurt until I got a notice in the mail requesting my presence in court. If there is one thing you do not want to come in the mail, it is a notice to appear in court. From what I can gather the old woman, who is a widow by the way, may be getting her license taken away and this hearing is to address that matter.
As I type I am on hold with the circuit court to find out if there is still a trial tomorrow. If so I have to go and speak under oath about the crash and all that I witnessed. If you haven’t figured it out already I will say it. This is bad news. I am now in a moral dilemma because I have to speak the truth of what I saw but when I do it will probably mean this woman will lose her license, have no transportation and no way to live on her own any longer. Yikes.
So, anyway, I just got off the phone and the case is still on. So tomorrow at 1 p.m. I take the plunge and tell my tale. I just hope it is the right thing to do and everything works out. Yeah, right.
