This is Scary.. Even for Me

Google

I just finished reading this theoretical short story about the near future if Google were to amass to much power (power in information). Thought fiction, it is scary as hell and is something I think people should think about. If you google search my name in a few days and I am no where to be found you know this is the reason why.

A brief warning before reading.. Google was investigated by the FTC, among others, for their amassing information. Google already has many of these technologies but there is no evidence that they are using them for harm to their customer or the world. Of course if you think about it, with the amount of data they control, there wouldn’t be any evidence would there?

End of an Era (brief era)

During the summer I started a Blog called Blog for Squares. It was an imporant thing for me to do because it allowed me to target my writing on a singular topic; Unconventional Thinking. This was a great experience and something I am very glad I did.

But like all good things it must come to and end. In a few days I will be closing down Blog for Squares to devote my time more to important aspects of my life like the people I care about and my endless pursuit to innovate and change an irrational world. I am glad for all the readers that read the blog and I hope many of them will come on over to this blog for further insight (though the theme is slightly different).

So check out the last post ever on Blog for Squares entitled The Grand Finale.

A Little About Myself? Sure.

Warren Greeley, and family
In photo: Warren Greeley (me), Paula Fox a.k.a. mom, and Emily Fox a.k.a. sister. Photo by: random lady sitting by us.

Since I have a few new readers to the old blog I though I would recap a little about myself. This is more in depth than my about page.

Many people on line try to hype themselves up to make themselves seem bigger than they actually are. I am definitely not a big influential mover or shaker (yet) but if I am one thing, it is honest. So here goes the little walk through the Essence of Warren (trademarked).

I started my first company in 2nd grade. It was called the Paper Company. Me and my in-class / playground business partners made things out of notebook paper and sold them for fake money that we distributed to students to use. It was quite a fun experience but of course I did not realized the path it would bring me down.

Later in high school I got into writing and attempted to write several novels. I failed in those attempts due to lack of discipline but learned a lot from the experience and got much feedback from my teachers and friends on ways to improve my writing.

Also in high school I became active in the World Needs Change movement. Yes, I am a liberal but don’t hold it against me. I am only a liberal in the sense that I believe there are some things in the world that are wrong and need to be fixed. On the same token there are somethings I would fight to keep the same if needed.

That is where my writing on this blog got started years before I even owned my own computer. I have had many years to allow my ideas to build on themselves and prove effective.

So after the dazed and confused years (not really) I began in college and am currently still attending. Again, not something to hold against me. Though I am young, actually because I am young, I am filled with innovative and creative ideas in my business and for the world. From that I can bring new perspective to a rather irrational world.

Today, besides going to college, I run my own design firm called Clarity Multimedia with my business partner and good friend Jestine Chakkumcal. Together we make a whole in running an effective company. I also am working on a few writing projects, some fiction and some non-fiction. Stay tuned for more info on that. All I have to say is 2008 is going to be a big year for my writing career.

Through my life I have not had it all good. I have been down and out financially and spiritually on many occasions growing up and have learned much from my hardship. From it I have grown and developed new concepts that can better the world. In time I hope to reveal these things as I become more known as a business man and innovator. My goal in business and in my personal life is simple and is my mantra I hum while meditating (just kidding about that last part).

“Change the World for the better by any means.”

Tutorials

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

I just finished watching the tutorials over at the Steven Price Productions website and was very impressed. It also reminded me of a good lesson in business practice.

Some businesses like to keep all their methods a big secret like they are magicians or double agents. This is not necessary because your customers and competitors can easily find out all the ingredients you use or techniques you apply by other means. It is your personal creativity or ideas that will get and keep customers.

Even above that logic is giving away some of the tricks up your sleeve like Steven Price did over at his company website. By demonstrating in the tutorials he is bringing advantages to his customers in several ways.

1. He is bringing understanding about the process that goes into his work to his clients and potential clients. This allows them to feel more comfortable with pricing and timeframes.

2. It allows customers to see a little taste of his skill as a video developer and then their impression could lead to sales.

Doing little things like revealing how just a few of the tricks work (but not all) can lead to more and better customer relations. Think now on what you could do to show your customers a little of your style.

Blog Essentials

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

Instead of using an RSS reader for all my blogs I have organized folders for niche blogs in business, technology, life, etc. In trying to simplify everything including my daily intake of information and time consumption I have created an essentials folder for my must read blogs. This is different for everyone but here are my lucky seven I currently have in there. They range across the spectrum of my life interest and I find them the most useful.

How to Change the World | Guy Kawasaki’s Blog

how to change the world

Mind Petals | The Young Entrepreneur Network

ProBlogger | Best tips on blogging

John Chow dot Com | Make money online blog

TechCrunch | Internet technology and business blog

Engadget | Very popular technology blog

zen habits | Simple life productivity

Limiting myself to the essentials in blog information through testing out which blogs give the best information will allowed me much more time to be productive during my day. Try it out for yourself if you like the concept.

A Social Experiment

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

I recently came up with this idea for a global social experiment I am going to try. I cannot give any more details than that because it would ruin the concept but what I can tell you is that it is anti-trendy in today’s internet driven sociality.

In time I will reveal more if I do go through with this.
