My Presidential Endorsement for 2008

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

I don’t like to put myself in any one political party since my views are mixed and come from long hard thought about subjects, not because of party lines. I also find understanding in most political sides of a debate but normally come to my own conclusion. I have voted for both democrats and republicans.

Obama LogoThis time around I am endorsing Barack Obama for President because I see in him the rationality of F.D.R. with the ideals of J.F.K. Though I do not agree with him on everything, I have observed his character over the past several years (he has been in the state and federal senate representing Illinois) and I see two defining characteristics in him that I see in no other candidate.

1. He is Consistent

No matter where he is or who he is talking to, he is the same man. He speaks about the issues with the same respect and dignity to everyone. Mrs. Clinton on the other hand seems to change her clothing style, speech, mannerisms, and stance everywhere she goes. On the west coast she is an upper class lady who is firm on gun control, in the south she is a southern speaking home-cooked meal type of gal, and in Pennsylvania she is a country girl who’s father taught her to shoot guns as a kid.

Whether you see Barack speak at the industrial plants of southern Illinois, in the churches of Georgia, or in the face of defeat in New Hampshire, if you read his books or watch him present his case on the Senate floor, he is always the same man.

2. He Doesn’t Accept Lobbyists

His campaign has raised more money from more people than any primary in history. This is monumental and it shows that a candidate can be in the running without the support of special interest groups who then expect something in return.

Instead or traditional fund raising, every dollar that has gone into his campaign have been from individual contributers who want nothing more than a new direction for the country. These nearly 1.5 million people have lead him to the front running position of the election and will continue to in the general election.

My Conclusion

What this country needs is hope. It is more than a slogan on a sign or a means to get elected. What Hope is, is a driving force that gives people reason to make things better for themselves and others. Barack Obama gives people this hope. He gives me this hope. And for that I am endorsing him for the President of the United States.

1st Launch Today

So today I will be putting up the new WarrenGreeley.com. There will most likely be some errors and bumps along the road so bare with me while browsing the site. All should be well by the end of the day.

New and Improved Websites Coming Next Week

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Next week I will be relaunching my three main sites.

1. claritymm.com - It will look mostly the same since most of the changes and improvements are in the text or the back end but there are some major changes in the services and portfolio section.

2. zenproblog.com - After several postponements, the new theme for Zen Problog will be launched. It still maintains is minimalist integrity but will be much more user friendly.

3. warrengreeley.com! - Finally I have chosen a design I think is worthy of launching as the new look for my personal website. It will be much different than the current one. The new site will also feature a new logo I created for myself inspired by middle-age family crests.

There are no exact dates of when I will be launching but it will likely be early next week. I’ll be announcing them as they come. Stay tuned.

Reality Check for the Modern Artist

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

I just read this excellent (though kind of out of place) article on ProBlogger by a guest poster named Robert Bruce.

It’s very simple, 27 Thoughts on blogging for the artist. Though the title implies the thoughts only pertain to blogging, there is some general insight that all of us in the creative field should take to heart when venturing into the great abyss known as the internet.

Update: Read this entertaining poem at KnifeGunPen (Robert Bruce’s blog)

Loving What You Do (and How to Find It)

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

I have had a lot of internal conflict lately about what I want to do with my life. I have a web design business that I love and I am also building writing career but I still struggle with what I really want to do with my life. I have so many interests and ideas that I sometimes cannot figure out where to aim my arrow.

BrianKim.net has an excellent article that has helped me with my dilemma. It is quite a long article but it really has insight into the development of discovering what you really want to do with your life. Here is an excerpt:

I suspect the vast majority of people who engage in this “I have to be doing something every minute because I can’t be by myself” mentality are just putting up a front to show people how satisfying and fulfilling their life is, when in reality, it’s just the opposite.
