My Presidential Endorsement for 2008
Tuesday, April 29th, 2008I don’t like to put myself in any one political party since my views are mixed and come from long hard thought about subjects, not because of party lines. I also find understanding in most political sides of a debate but normally come to my own conclusion. I have voted for both democrats and republicans.
This time around I am endorsing Barack Obama for President because I see in him the rationality of F.D.R. with the ideals of J.F.K. Though I do not agree with him on everything, I have observed his character over the past several years (he has been in the state and federal senate representing Illinois) and I see two defining characteristics in him that I see in no other candidate.
1. He is Consistent
No matter where he is or who he is talking to, he is the same man. He speaks about the issues with the same respect and dignity to everyone. Mrs. Clinton on the other hand seems to change her clothing style, speech, mannerisms, and stance everywhere she goes. On the west coast she is an upper class lady who is firm on gun control, in the south she is a southern speaking home-cooked meal type of gal, and in Pennsylvania she is a country girl who’s father taught her to shoot guns as a kid.
Whether you see Barack speak at the industrial plants of southern Illinois, in the churches of Georgia, or in the face of defeat in New Hampshire, if you read his books or watch him present his case on the Senate floor, he is always the same man.
2. He Doesn’t Accept Lobbyists
His campaign has raised more money from more people than any primary in history. This is monumental and it shows that a candidate can be in the running without the support of special interest groups who then expect something in return.
Instead or traditional fund raising, every dollar that has gone into his campaign have been from individual contributers who want nothing more than a new direction for the country. These nearly 1.5 million people have lead him to the front running position of the election and will continue to in the general election.
My Conclusion
What this country needs is hope. It is more than a slogan on a sign or a means to get elected. What Hope is, is a driving force that gives people reason to make things better for themselves and others. Barack Obama gives people this hope. He gives me this hope. And for that I am endorsing him for the President of the United States.
